Situated

1851 - Gold discovered in nearby Swamp Creek. A flood of prospectors from California, Jamaica, Europe & China set up camp along the Peel river and the nearby mountain slopes

1865 - The population had grown to 500 with about 50 businesses in operation

1885 - Nundle declared a town

The ruins of old mine workings and equipment lie scattered about the valley floor and up the mountain sides to this day.

Traces of Gold along with a variety of gemstones are still to be found so

	Pan for gold on the Peel River
	Fossick in the Hanging Rock area

The Peel River and nearby Chaffey Dam are very popular with anglers
