HISTORY

1851 - Gold discovered in nearby Swamp Creek. A flood of prospectors from California, Jamaica, Europe & China set up camp along the Peel river and the nearby mountain slopes

1865 - The population had grown to 500 with about 50 businesses in operation

1885 - Nundle declared a town

bullet

The ruins of old mine workings and equipment lie scattered about the valley floor and up the mountain sides to this day.
